Pheasant Coucal

Ever since I heard and quickly saw this bird for the first time last month, I wanted to take a decent photo of a Pheasant Coucal (Centropus phasianius). I am totally excited that I had the privilege to not only hear it again this morning. Trotting, actually rushing back to my car, I could not believe my eyes that two individuals were very close in the bushes. They were obviously a bit excited and were constantly using their alarm call. Soon, the reason became clear. They followed a big lace monitor. They became calmer as I might have scared the lace monitor away. Now, I was being eyed though. Plenty of photo opportunities were wasted, always a twig or a grass in the way for the perfect shot. So, I moved on, dreaming about them sitting on an exposed branch in a fair distance. Sometimes, dreams become reality: both individuals, one after the other, visited that branch and almost posed for me.
